Mawusi Renee Simmons

Associate Director, Institutional Giving

Mawusi joined ECS in June 2022 as Associate Director, Institutional Giving. A member of ECS’ advancement team, she is focused on securing grant funding from private and public institutional sources to support ECS’ programs and community center.

For over two decades Mawusi has worked in the non-profit sector as an institutional fundraising professional including most recently at Community College of Philadelphia, People’s Emergency Center, and Einstein Healthcare Network. Earlier, Mawusi integrated her love for the arts with her professional calling working in development at the Lantern Theater Company, the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, and the Painted Bride Art Center.

She feels strongly connected to ECS’s mission to challenge and reduce intergenerational poverty and is honored to be on the ECS team working to help people improve their lives and participating in positive change for communities.

Mawusi holds a B.A. in Music History and Theory from Old Dominion University and has pursued graduate studies in music, ethnomusicology, arts administration, and African American Studies. She holds a certificate in editing and is an avid reader. Currently, Mawusi finds her “happy place” with fiber arts – weaving, knitting, fiber dyeing, felting, silk painting, etc. and is an active member of the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers and the New York Guild of Handweavers.
