The Darby Mission exists to foster hope and community in a neighborhood with many strengths.

A collaborative effort of ECS, the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, the leadership of Darby Borough, and the Darby Free Library, The Darby Mission partners with community residents to relieve the symptoms of poverty and hunger.

Before ECS came to Darby, the newly-built Bacon Recreation Center sat mostly unused. Youth came to play on the basketball courts, but other than that, the stunning new facility was sorely under-utilized. In part due to this partnership, a wealth of programming is now offered regularly at this beautiful new facility, as well as at the Darby Free Library, located on the same street.

Activities include after school and summer camp through our Out of School Time program, a fully furnished computer lab, and bi-monthly dinners hosted by volunteer groups.

In the summer of 2015, six months after the launch of the Darby Mission, ECS secured a grant from the United Thank Offering to build a computer lab at the Darby Free Library. When our Out of School Time programs in the neighborhood started a few months later, the computer lab was available for use by both children and adults.
